My Honest Opinion on Shein.com

I am patiently awaiting swimsuit szn.
I get a lot of DM's on Instagram when I wear something from Shein.com about whether or not it is a scam or if it's not worth purchasing, so I thought it would be a good topic for a blog post. For those that do not already know, Shein is a online clothing store located in China that sells extremely inexpensive items. Some of the items are dupes for expensive designer items. I am just gonna jump in and list the positives and negatives about Shein, based on the experience I've had with them since I became a regular customer. I am also going to show you some of the items I've bought.

Pros:

  • CHEAP
  • Some of the items are actually great quality
  • Large variety
  • Swimwear is great
  • People usually leave reviews and photos of the actual item for your judgement
  • Did I mention CHEAP????
So, Shein's prices are very low. Almost too low. A typical item on their website ranges from about $10-$20, $20 being very expensive for Shein. Most things are around $10, though. I find this to be a positive and a negative aspect, but the positive side is, as a customer, I can get many items for a low price.
Some things are really good quality. I've worn items from Shein that people ask, "Where did you get that?" And they are in shock to hear back, "Shein .... which is in China." I feel like people automatically associate Chinese-made products with low quality and high quantity, but that isn't always the case.
Also, some of the swimwear items are amazing and I always buy my bathing suits here because I am 100% against spending $80 on tiny pieces of fabric that you destroy by being out in the sun.

Cons:

  • Some items are not so great
  • CHEAP
  • Tops are hella short
  • Everything runs small, but a medium is too big
  • Takes 2-2.5 weeks to ship to US
  • The clothes come SO wrinkled so prepare your iron/steamer/dry cleaner
  • If it's too good to be true, it is
  • Everything is polyester, ugh
As you can see, there are many many cons to shopping at Shein. They aren't monumental cons, just little irritating things you need to be prepared for. First, you get what you pay for. This is true with any kind of website. If you pay $10 for a top, chances are, you will get a top that looks $10.
Sometimes, Shein items do look really high quality (READ REVIEWS), dependent on what item you buy.
Also, the sizing is almost always off so a small may fit weird or be really short. Just don't lift your arms or you will expose your entire stomach.
The packaging is one of those plastic mailing envelopes, so the clothes are smushed inside and really wrinkled. I had to intensely iron everything I bought before I could wear them.
The reason everything is so cheap is because it is all polyester fabric. Not good.
Polyester is not even spelled right.

Items I own from Shein + my rating:

Gingham Bow Top: 5 stars

 Banana Leaf 2-Piece: 5 stars

Banana Leaf Maxi Dress: 4 stars

Halter Geometric Print 2-Piece: 4 stars

Eyelet Top: 3 stars

Bright Yellow Dress: 4 stars

Off The Shoulder Contrast Top: 3 stars

White Linen Bow Shorts: 3 stars

Contrast Peplum Top: 4 stars

Striped Bell Sleeve Top: 5 stars

Gingham Tea Length Skirt: 3 stars
This is the grand finale since it is actually pretty funny. First, I'm gonna show the bathing suit I was supposed to get. Then, I'll show the bathing suit I actually got.
The top is literally just a long piece of fabric and the bottoms are so big that they fall off of me. My rating: 0 stars. I was jipped.

One odd situation I had with Shein was when I purchased a white bikini from their website recently. (Yes, I was buying a bikini in January.) I figured it would arrive pretty quickly since it was only one item. About a week after I placed the order, I got an email from their customer service saying that the item was out of stock. My options were to either exchange for a different item or ask for a refund to my "Shein Wallet." So, I decide to exchange for a different item because it seemed easier than a refund. I emailed them the item number and size I needed, a little disappointed that I would not be getting the white bikini I originally ordered. Then, I get another email from Shein CS that said the white bikini was in stock and it was a mistake. Confusing. Here are the emails they sent me, starting with the first one.

To conclude, I still haven't gotten the item, but when and if I do, it'll be part of my Shein swimwear haul for this summer in the near future. Another blogger's video about Shein you should watch if you are interested in purchasing is Lonestar Southern. I watched her video before I made my first purchase. Also, @nwyches on Instagram is a Shein addict and has plenty photos of Shein items in her OOTD's. All in all, Shein is a great website if you want cheaper clothes by the dozen.
